Described as a powerhouse and a rare and exceptional artist who will be an essential fixture on the new music scene for years to come, the artistic and curatorial practice of Mikkel Schou (b. 1991, Denmark) is characterized by a great diversity of approaches; all refracted through the transformative power of interdisciplinary art and contemporary music.

In 2019 Schou started K!ART [pronounced klart] - a flexibly-sized ensemble based in Copenhagen specialized in instrumental new music, post-instrumental and interdisciplinary performance art. Since it’s inception the ensemble has premiered more than 50 new works and presented upwards of 60 concert-events under Schou’s artistic leadership.

K!ART doubles as a cultural production platform, and in this capacity facilitates a broader range of events. Most significantly of those is MINU Festival. The festival was founded by Schou together with composer and curator Dylan Richards, and the duo functions as co-artistic directors. Schou is also acting chair of UNM Danmark and in this capacity took the leading role in facilitating Ung Nordisk Musik 2021 Aarhus: (un)common ground, which celebrated the organization's 75th anniversary with a one-week festival showcasing over 40 works by young composers and sound artists from across the Nordic countries. The festival consisted of 16 events ranging from concerts to exhibitions, lectures, panels, and workshops.

Schou holds a BA and MA from DJM in Aarhus in contemporary music performance (main instrument guitar) and an advanced post-graduated (solist) degree from DKDM, graduating in instrumental performance and artistic research. He is a 2021 recipient of the Leonie Sonning talent award.
